Well.......

Meet Kentaro Yoshida of Tochigi SC........He managed to score the 1 in the 1-0 upset of legendary former Emperors Cup holder Tokyo Verdy 1969 1-0.

I guess they can concentrate on not being promoted to J1 now.

Other J2 teams to fall by the wayside are Yokohama FC (Kazu and Takaki with links to Verdy) and Vissel Kobe (Atsuhiro Miura and Rakuten had former Verdy links) as well as bottom barrel Mito Hollyhock.

UHhhhhhhhhh......

I went to the game today.Terrible result, tiny crowd (3,023)and 1500 yen wasted. The weather was beautiful though and as I sat down i was looking forward to some action.I didn`t get any in the first half, dull, dull, dull is how I would describe it and thats being kind. The boys were barracked off the field and deservedly so. Second half started off the same as the first, dull as anything until Tochigi scored. Header I think it was. Anyway at this point you really couldnt tell who was the semi pro team.Tochigi were well organised and able stifle the Verdy attack quite easily. They were on the backfoot the majority of the time but never really in much danger. The attackers never got going untill Tochigi scored. They scored in the 60th minute and for the last half an hour Verdy layed siege upon the Tochigi goal.Tochigi really should have killed the game shortly after as Verdy pressed forward they were caught on a fast break out, the striker went one on one with Mizuhara and blasted woefully high.A terrible waste. Hiramoto had a toe poke just wide,Hashi had a couple of free kicks come to nothing from the edge of the box and Marcus hit the bar with about the last kick of the game from about 3 yards out. A real shocker! Ball came in,he did everything right except when he hit the ball (at about waist height) he hit it down into the ground and it looped up over the keeper and onto the top of the bar.I left right on the whistle, I couldn`t be bothered listening to the booing etc. All credit goes to Tochigi, they came in, did a job, brought a surprisingly large number of supporters and probably deserved the win and the chance to mix it up in Round 4. Verdys unpredictability continues. Roll on next season as this is one to forget...

Yeah.......I was surprised they didn't play this at Nishigaoka or the other small stadium that Ehime played against Verdy at.

This is one of the few times I was glad I had no money for the game. Anybody tell you what happened to Saitoh......why didn't Ze Luis play? Was there any reason to go to a glorified 4-5-1 when down a goal?

Yokohama dropping to a 4th division club helped as well as Kobe letting up 4, only the third worst loss today, I suppose.

Hello Nick, Steve, I'm Ultranippon but I have make a new blog of Verdy in Spanish and this is my new name :D. I think Verdy played better than Tochigi but we were so vague in the easy pass and they could make nice counterattacks. I don't understand why didn't play Ze Luis and why Silva was so bad in this match.

This is my blog adress: www.ganbare-verdy.blogspot.com

Can you link it in Soilent green 1969??

Thank you!!

Im not sure about why Ze Luis didn`t play, you are right about the easy passing,so many times it broke down around the penalty area.As for the 4-5-1,it actually got us a lot more room as it enabled Ishikawa to get to the by line and get round the back of the Tochigi back line with a lot more success than before. In the last half an hour we were clearly the better side, but up until that point I really thought it was about even.We certainly might have had more attacking intent, but as I said before, Tochigi put on a defensive display they can be proud of.Our passing was poor in part because of the work rate of the opposition, they were given no time on the ball and that is all credit to them. They also should have wrapped the game up just after they scored.I hope they go on to claim a bigger scalp than ours as their travelling support deserve it!! If Verdy somehow went to JFL level I don`t think we`d see 1000 odd travelling to a reasonably distant away game.
