Big Game ahead

Today is a huge game in modern Verdy history.A win will most likely propel the team into promotion status. A loss breathes life into not only Vegalta Sendai, but Kyoto and hard charging Cerezo as well. The good news for Verdy is that they face an opponent they have absolutely owned in Vegalta Sendai. Sendai goes into the game without Talismanic midfielder Lopez, who is out with a leg problem.
The key matchup will be between Hulk and new Vegalta CB Kazunari Okayama, a refugee from Kashiwa Reysol.
Rui Ramos was quoted in the Nikkan press as saying he was like Ochiai, the manager of Nippon Series winning Chunichi Dragons, because he is not afraid to make risky decisions in order to win. Well, his risky decision today is starting Kaz Iio over Silva. UMMMMMMMM.......
I will not be in attendance because I'm sick.
BABY BIRDS DROP ONE TO JEF IN SAHARA CUP
Verdy youth find themselves sitting behind Consadole in group play after dropping a 3-2 decision. The boys get on with it today against group leader Consadole at Verdy grounds.
OFF TOPIC :GOAL 2-The sappiness continues
Just saw Goal 2-Soccer Boogaloo on DVD and it was entirely predictable but still fun. GOAL chronicles the travels of Mexican undocumented worker and soccer prodigy Santiago Muniz, who gets discovered by a Newcastle scout and is whisked off to Europe.......damn the visa issues. Part two takes place with wonderboy getting an offer to play for Real Madrid to play with a bunch of guys who either retired or left for Los Angeles. Temptation, Jealousy, Rage........it's like an R Kelly video with soccer too. It's good for a laugh or three.......what the hell, I'll recommend it. More believable than Elijah Wood in "GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS".

Finally Verdy draw. I think it is a good result because now Verdy only have to take 4 points in this last 2 matches and will be a J1 team again although Vegalta win all possible points :D

Vamos Verdy!

just watched on telly... first half even stevens but second half, Sendai didn`t have a shot, Hulk hammered the goal but was done by the woodwork and variuos parts of the goalies body...was always gonna take a decent finish to get one back, well done to the fat lad!! Also congrats to Hulk for not only scoring 37 goals in a season for the Greens (plus hopefully a couple more to come..) but also for growing the GUARANTEED biggest pork chops in Asia!! Well done that man!! I challenge anybody on any website in the world to find a bigger pair of sideboards ever sported on a football pitch anywhere in Japan!! A ground out result today but Im pretty sure Verdy left the ground happier than Sendai.J1 beckons...can we mess it up in time?? Reckon we`ll be ok myself, Sendai have to play Kyoto and if Kyoto win or draw we are as good as up. Looking at the stats we have lost 10 all season and 6 were in THE STREAK. I don`t care if we don`t go up as champs, up is up at the end of the day, especially after how our prospects looked earlier in the year when we were looking lucky for a chance to be anywhere near the play offs. 2nd place is fantastic in my book, 1st would be icing on the cake but 2nd is ESSENTIAL.3rd would be a catastrophe considering where we are now... Come on Kyoto!! but not too much....

I agree with you nick! I don't care if Verdy is 1st or 2nd, the important is to return J1, although 1st position would be great :D

See you!

Well, Consadole is making it interesting.

Curious to see who gets the nod up top with Diego.

Its got be Silva. He`s got pace and knows where the goal is. Iio is fast but couldn`t hit a cows arse with a banjo when he`s in the box. Lets hope Funakoshi is still sweeping the car park for the rest of his contract, great lump that he is. I don`t know how Iio has been a professional player for so long. Has he scored this season?? I can`t remember him getting one. It`d be interesting to tally his and Funakoshi`s career games played to goals scored ratios...both useless unfortunately. If you take Hulk out of the equation its very possible that collectively the defenders have scored more than the forwards this season (also if you count Diego as a midfielder) which he is essentially).Iio has been crap wherever he`s been and unfortunately he`s at Verdy. If we get up and can`t keep hold of Hulk, then we are gonna have to get some more firepower in as if we go up with what we`ve got minus Hulk, we will STRUGGLE for goals. Funakoshi and Iio as a partnership wouldn`t strike fear into the heart of a kindergarton team nevermind J1.
Anyway, lets not get ahead of ourselves we have to get the points on the board first before we can start worrying about next year.....C`mon the Boys!!

From my point of view Silva, Hiroyama and Funakoshi can play with Diego as FW. Maybe Silva and Hiroyama are better technically and faster but Funakoshi has a better header. Iio can play as a MF because he doesn't have goal but is fast and has good pass.

Only one question, Nick, Steve... Do you know if Hulk will be able to play against Cerezo?

See you!

Dunno about Hulk, hopefully we can do Ehime and if other results go our way we`ll be up by the last day. I`d hate to have to get a result on the last day away to Cerezo minus our biggest goal threat. I would also be happy with Hiroyama starting with Hulk but Hiroyama and Diego up top would be the slowest forward line in Japan. I`d go for Silva to begin with and Hiroyama wide midfield. He has a good eye for a pass and can score. I just don`t rate Funakoshi at all. That said if he turns up and bangs in a hat trick ill be the first to say how brilliant he is!! I noticed the fairweather supporters are drifting back, 11,000 against Consadole and 16,000 against Sendai. It makes such a difference playing at Ajinomoto too, just under 5,000 v Shonan at Nishigaoka then back to Ajinomoto and the figures skyrocket. Of course a good portion of these were away supporters but still.16,000 is our biggest crowd since J1 so lets hope the Boys can keep up the good work and keep em coming. Japan is THE land of the bandwagoner but as long as the wagon is Green I don`t give a toss. Crowds of 40,000 v Reds on beatiful summers day or 3,000 on a windswept Wednesday night vs the lesser lights, its all good, its all Green and its going up!!
